INSTRUCTIONS

Final Project: Research and Reflect
From our data collection we decided to choose tarot cards and combine the brand design as suggested by Ms. Anis for our final design conclusion. We had to improve on our design on both of the tarot cards and brand design. We had to look through tarot card websites and study more on the tarot card as well as the symbolisms of the cards. As based in our data collection the meaning of the cards has to be clear and there should be a theme involve in the cards.

What we need to do before our next meeting is to research more on tarot card decks and have more ideas on how to improve what we have from our proposal sketches. Since our brand design is a fortune telling company the tarot cards will make perfect sense to be combined with the brand design idea where our company can provide a fortune telling service.

9th meeting (7/2/2022)
Our final decision on the tarot card is to make the 22 major arcana tarot cards where we will incorporate the 3 mythical figures Oni, Evil eye and Medusa in the tarot cards. We also discuss on which card is more suitable for which mythical figures so that it actually makes sense to put them there then just placing them randomly. After we divided the 3 mythical figures to their own respective cards, we wrote a short description of what visuals that we can include in the cards. Then we divided the 22 cards among 5 of us to create sketches of before proceeding to make the final one. Since we already did 3 sketches of the tarot cards in our proposal idea sketches we were left with 19 cards plus the back cover so each of us pick 4 cards to sketch out. I was in charge of doing the sketches for "The hierophant", "The chariot", "The hanged man" as well as the back cover of the card.

10th meeting (9/2/2022)
We finished our parts of the tarot sketches and showed each other to have feedbacks on what should be change for the finalized version. I also helped out in doing the sketch for the pamphlet as we all felt the one in the proposal was not minimalist enough and needed some changes. We then came up with a tarot card layout and the colour palette for the tarot card. After that we  discuss on the info details for our pamphlet. Before ending the meeting we separated the tasks for each other and also the artboard requirements for the tarot card and pamphlet where we plan to get everything done before the 19th of February.

Tasks Given:
Tarot Card
  • Line art: Sasilvia
  • Colouring: Yi Ki
  • Border and numbers: Nitish

Sketches

We then wrote down the rationale as well as the reason why we choose to only do the major arcana tarot cards. I also started my part on the line art so that Yi Ki can colour them later on.

For the line art I had to keep a consistent art style throughout the 22 tarot cards. I also made some changes to some of the elements from the sketches to the line art so that it will be more suitable.

Things that I changed in the tarot cards from the sketches to the line art:
  1. The Fool- I changed the overall face structure of the Oni, added ears and eyebrows, sharpen the tongue, horns, enlarged the teeth, took away the hair and change the design of the jester hat.
  2. The Magician- I changed the string for the pendant so that it looks more like an infinity symbol.
  3. The High Priestess- Refine the lines.
  4. The Empress- I made the snake more detailed, structured the crown more properly and made the sparkles better.
  5. The Emperor- Changed the art style and structure of the Oni.
  6. The Hierophant- Redrew the hands and the Oni club.
  7. The Lovers- Changed the art style of the hands and added details of the snakes.
  8. The Chariot- Redrew the face structure and refined the Raijin symbol of the chariot.
  9. Strength- I changed the whole structure and art style of the lion and made the lion's mouth open and added teeth as suggested by the group members.
  10. The Hermit- Changed the art style of the hands.
  11. Wheel of Fortune- Refine the lines.
  12. Justice- Changed the structure of Medusa's face and added more snakes for her hair as well as refine the scales.
  13. The Hanged Man- Refine the hand and arm structure.
  14. Death- Changed the art style of the face structure and made the hand crumble bigger and clearer.
  15. Temperance- Changed the face structure of the Oni.
  16. The Devil- Added eyes to the Oni as suggested by my group members. Changed the structure of the Oni's teeth so that it matches the other cards. Refined the two human and chains.
  17. The Tower- Made the tower structure more detailed and added scales on the snake. Redrew the lightning bolts. Added water on the below of the card.
  18. The Star- Refined the lines and added scales on the snakes.
  19. The Moon- Changed the human silhouette to a hand reaching out.
  20. The Sun- Changed the human silhouette to a fist.
  21. Judgement- Refined the lines of the skeleton hands. Redrew the clouds and Oni's club.
  22. The World- Refined the lines.
  23. Back Cover- Refined the lines and readjust the teeth alignment.

I was also in charge of drawing the line art of the illustrations for the pamphlet.

Since I was done with my part of the project and had some time in my hands, I did the arrangement and decorating of the slides so that it suits our theme better. Also since our pamphlet idea changed to booklet the line art for the pamphlet was no longer at use so I decided to used them in our slides instead.

Script
For our final project we did the same as two of our previous one where we wrote our script into google docs so that the group members will be able to coordinate the script properly. The estimated time for each of our part is written beside our name and the highlighted part is to indicate when to click to the next slide.

FEEDBACK
Week 6 (11/2/2022)
Feedback for our rationale and sketches-
Need a bit more detail on the rationale. Hope to see more designs on Monday.

Week 7 (14/2/2022)
For the tarot card colouring make grainy texture and lighter background or make Medusa's hand glow or lighter. The hierophant illustrations could be bigger. As for fonts, Poor Richard has that medieval vibe, Constantia has a modern vibe. Not a big fan of the company pamphlet. Try to use existing visuals to make it a game manual to explain each of the cards like the meaning of the cards and gameplay. A booklet perhaps, there is a booklet template at canva if you guys want to use it.

Week 8 (21/2/2022)
Nicely done. Is there gonna be any texture or the background is going to be plain black? Good job.

REFLECTION
After the long awaited, we finally get to produced our final design. The tarot cards were so much fun to make, from looking up at the descriptions and meaning to being able to find things that symbolizes it. Having 22 tarot cards in total and only 3 mythical figures to put them into was fun to sort out, it was interesting at how the mythical figures was able to pair up with the meaning of the cards so well. Sketching the cards out took away some brain juice from me, where I had to look up at certain cards to look for inspirations and create mine from scratch. Doing the line art was definitely hard work  as I had to redraw all 22 plus one which is the back tarot cards and improved on the visuals and being consistent on the art style. The ones with anatomy was surely painful to draw but I do want to improve on my anatomy skills so this is a great part for me to participate in. The colour choices and border on the cards also made a huge difference on the visuals. I always had the passion of making unique and different things so this was something I am really happy that I was able to do. Being able to see the final results of our design after weeks of hard work sure gave off a certain satisfaction.
