Thumbnail Sketches
Fig. 1.1 Temple Hall Moodboard (14/6/2023)
I was inspired by Dante's Inferno The Nine Circles Of Hell when I did the layout plan. The lowest floor was chosen to be the location for the worship hall for the death God because in the story the 9th circle of hell was where Satan was imprisoned.

(14/6/2023)
I did a simple concept sketch of the death God, Yommarat. The name was actually derived from the actual death God in Thailand. I gave the death God somewhat humanoid features and also his skull slowly emerging for beneath to show his true form.

I sketched 6 thumbnail sketches of the temple hall in different angles and settings.

Refinements
There was a name change temple hall > worship hall.
Sketch 1 and 3 was one of my favorites, in the end voting result in class I decided to go with the 3rd sketch. Did a messy sketch to know what detail I'll be adding later on.

Was not able to finish the line art this week before feedback session so this is my progress so far.

Refinements
Following up with the previous description of Satan being imprisoned at the 9th circle of hell. I thought of a great idea to add chains statue to make
it look like the death God is being
imprisoned down there.

I continued and refined the line art
from the previous week. I added bones
and skulls onto the pillars. Through Mr.
Kannan's feedback I was told to add in
skulls with daggers pierced into them to
symbolize sacrifice. I also reduced the
steps for the staircase to make it less
repetitive, added patterns for the dome
to make it less plain changed a few of
the design for the pillar and also the
wall torch. A summoning circle and a few
lit and non lit up candles are added to
show that a ritual ceremony is being
performed.

I painted the worship hall gold and red.
I wanted to overall look to feel
unpleasant and disturbing.

FEEDBACK
Week 11 (15/6/2023)
Sketch 2 is not bad but have to tilt it a little more, 3 has the most vote.
Make the pillars higher, have somewhat of a dome/ crate. Look at your
perspective, currently have too much stairs, have walls on the stairs to
break them apart. The top of the arch is too sharp. Can add a waterfall,
make it look abandoned, have overgrown trees, devilish signs, longer
door/ no door, and spiderwebs, since you have skulls continue using more of
the skull motive everywhere, have thorn cloth, thorn banner. Can also make
it look gore if you want.
Week 12 (23/6/2023)
Staircase is too small, and too repetitive look at something bigger with, some are broken some are chipped off, for pillars maybe leave out the bricks and let it stay as a huge structure instead (can be done with marble materials/ or make it a hexagon, don't need to have multiple lines can have one solid colour, triangles can be much bigger and popping, can use bones on pillars, in concept art anything that u won't see can used shapes, look for reference for torch how is it properly attached to a wall (can have a frame/holder) for flooring look into cobblestone, skulls can have knives to show that they did a lot of sacrifices, chains can be wrapped around the pillars.
Week 12 (30/6/2023)
Okay but too dark, value is a bit all over the place, look at the colours that can be overlaid with something else, darken what u need to darken. It's not only about looking at textures, value is very important.
REFLECTION
I have always loved adding details to my drawings. However, I have come to realize that in the realm of concept design, it is essential to selectively remove certain details and instead depict them in the breakdowns or subsequent stages. It is crucial for me to shift my mindset from approaching it solely as an illustration to treating it as a concept design, prioritizing the overall vision rather than getting caught up in minute specifics.
