INSTRUCTIONS
Week 1: FLIP Topic 1- Different types of infographics and online
tools
Group Task For our group task we
were required to find out what are the different types of infographic and
the kind of information they are applicable for and also an example for
each identified type.
Our group decided to meet up on discord to have our discussion about the task. We all did multiple research on the different types of infographics and wrote the necessary ones down in a google docs sheet with example of images and their credit links for easier pasting in the google slides next. We then separated around 2-3 slides each to do, I was in charge of resume and list infographic. After we were done we gave ourselves a time schedule to send in our recordings for them to be combined into one video.
Individual Task We were also given
an individual task. Where we have to pick one free online infographic tool
and re-design one poorly constructed infographic poster through our own
experimentation with the selected tool.
First, I started by going through the internet and multiple articles to
search for poorly designed infographics. It took me quite some time
to find one as they do not usually pop up as actual infographic but more
like templates. After an hour later, I managed to find this infographic
about "Severe Business Consequences Stem from Poor Supplier
Data".
Fig. 2.1 Badly designed infographic (12/1/2022)
There are a few things that I did not like about this infographic.
Firstly, the use of colour combination is somewhat boring and does not
contrast with each other which makes it boring to read and also does not
catch any attention from the people. Secondly, the fonts are a huge
problem, they are way too small even when I squint my eyes I can hardly
read them. The type of font chosen is also pretty bad as it does not match
with each other. The layout of the infographic is overall terrible and it
will get boring to read as you get more into it. Other than that, the
overuse of the donut chart is boring and uncreative.
Fig. 2.2-2.4 Templates from Canva (12/1/2022)
After picking out a badly designed infographic, I decided to use Canva
as the free online tool that I will be using to redesign the
infographic. Before doing so I went through the variety of templates
Canva has provided. Even though there are a lot of options, too bad most
of the really nice ones area blocked by a pay wall. Since Canva had too
much to choose from and I started getting a headache I decided to narrow
down my options to business infographics and I found the above three
really pretty and organized. In the end I decided to pick fig.1.4 as the
template that I am going to use.

Fig. 2.6 Soybean and Eclipse colour combination
Fig. 2.7 Pink and Navy Blue colour combination
Fig. 2.8 Mango Mojito and Terrarium Moss colour combination
(12/1/2022)
Before placing all the information from the badly design
infographic to the new template I went for a colour combination
hunt and I came across this website that gives a ton of colour
combinations. I went for the two colour combination as I think it
will suit the template that I went for best as it does not look
too messy and will look more professional.
Fig. 2.9-2.12 Redesigns (13/1/2022)
Following all the colour combination that I have chosen I
redesign 4 infographics. Out of all of them my favorite one is the
pink and navy blue as it has contrast and also a refreshing
feeling to it.
Fig. 2.13 Testing out other icons (13/1/2022)
I also tried testing out more on the icon options that Canva has
provided and I found these moods ones adorable but sadly it did
not suit the theme as it was too bright and playful for a business
infographic. In the end I still went for my favorite one that is
the pink and navy blue with cleaner icons.

Difficulty, intuitiveness
As someone who used Canva since a long time ago I do find it very
simple and easy to use. The options for the margins, rulers and
guidelines makes life so much more easier. One thing that I am
not much a fan of is the automatic locking option as I do not get to
freely place certain things I want and it gets really irritating. But
other than that Canva is definitely a great place for beginners to
start using their online tools as it provides clear and easy manuals
on how to use it and it saves so much time.
Usefulness
Canva is 100% a useful website that people can go on and create
digital products easily and also really fast. It is really easy to get
used to Canva. I personally love the colour picking tool where I can
just drop the codes of the colour I want and immediately get it. The
way we get to change the colours of our icons is also a wonderful
thing. The design templates is something very useful and makes people
create new things with ease. The data charts were very easy to use,
where we are able to just drop in the amount and information we want
and we get the result instantly without having to create it from
scratch.
Design templates, choices
The huge variety of templates in Canva always surprises me, if
only we don't have to pay for some it will be so much better. I also
love the cute icons the provided and also the data charts and so on.
Week 2: FLIP Topic 2- Saul Wurman's L.A.T.C.H
L.A.T.C.H is a method of information organization that consist
of these principles:
Location
Alphabet
Time
Category
Hierarchy
In our group we have to present an explanation on the topic and
provide examples or scenarios of what information best utilized
with each principle.
Same like how we did with our first FLIP topic we met at discord and did research in the multiple articles that we have found. Then we went onto google slides and did our own parts. This time I was in charge for the introduction.
Being able to make the slides and doing the research on the FLIP topics had helped me ingrained all the knowledge to my head. The knowledge learned will help me in being able to create and collect info in the future. Where I am able to apply all the aspects and utilize them in various form of info.

It can be either symmetrical balance or asymmetrical balance. a) Symmetrical Balance - Has the same amount of weight on both sides of a centrally located fulcrum Fig. 1.1 Symmetrical Balance 3 Kinds of symmetrical balance : - Bilateral balance is where there is an equal arrangement of elements - Radial balance is when elements are distributed equally around a central point - Approximate symmetry is when equivalent but not identical forms are grouped around the fulcrum line Fig. 1.2 Approximate symmetry b) Asymmetrical Balance ...

We were given two options, one which was to 3D model our chosen vehicle or two to polish all 3 of the vehicles by rendering and drawing all their orthographics. I went with second option since I was not so confident with 3D modelling and was afraid that I would not have enough time to finish it. Below are my render and orthographics for the water vehicle. I named the he...
