Week 7 -
Deuteragonist Thumbnail Sketches
Chose sketch #4 as it has the best dynamic for his character.

Week 8 -
Progressions
After discussing with Mr. Kannan, I chose to proceed with sketches #3 and #5 for Mali.

Fig. 3.1 Mali - Antagonist, thumbnail sketches (25/5/2023)

Did a refinement sketch for Han with a combination of sketch #1 and #5 where I incorporate sketch #5 boots into sketch #1.

Fig. 3.2 Han - Protagonist, refinements (25/5/2023)

After that I proceed further with her colour palette, I wanted to incorporate Thai Yaksha colours and make her look fun but also edgy.

I combined the accessories from sketch #1 with sketch #4 to make him more flashy.

Fig. 3.4 Ritthirong - Deuterogamist, refinements (25/5/2023)

I gave him dark muted colours to be in contrast with the main character.

Fig. 3.5 Ritthirong - Deuterogamist, colour palette (25/5/2023)

Following up with that I did a few sketches for Han's main weapon. I incorporate Thai sword blades where they have their unique curves and also Thai decor and patterns for the handle.

Fig. 3.6 Han - Protagonist, dual sword sketches (25/5/2023)

In Nier: Automata, 2B the main character has 2 weapons that she can switch them during fights. I decided to give Han a second weapon too. I saw that there was something called combat bracers in the game which are weapons that are worn over the hand like gloves. Then an idea came across mu mind to take Muay Thai boxing gloves as an inspo.

After that I continued with Ritthirong's weapon where I drew a few sketches for his large sword x laser gun.  I liked design 4 very much because its suits his flashiness and is edgy.

Week 9 -
Progressions
I did further refinements for Mali and then continued with her colour palette

I managed to finish the line art for Han and did some rendering for Ritthirong.

Fig. 4.4 Ritthirong - Deuterogamist, render progress (1/6/2023)

I did the line arts for the weapons too, thought later on I realize I did it in the wrong artboard size which would interfere with the quality later on so I have no choice but to redo it later on. And I also used a brush that was way too thick than what I wanted.

Week 10 -
Finalization
Finished the rendering for all 3 characters. All of them took insanely long to finish.

I also did the character's expressions according to their personalities. However, since Mali is a faceless character I decided to show her face behind the cloth and how she looked like in the past that relates to her story.

FEEDBACK

Week 4 (28/4/2023)
When sketching for your characters, start by giving them a pose in a 3/4 view. This way you will be able to capture the persona of the character. Doing the A or T pose is not wrong but it can look flat, boring and childish. The A or T pose can be done when u come up with the final design and then proceed with the orthographic. It is best to give your character an asymmetrical design and try to balance each side out. Learn how each part of the clothing goes so that it does not look awkward.

**week 5-8 feedbacks are in exercise**

Week 9 (29/5/2023)
For Han the old shoes are better, copy that and paste it, if you want to keep the old pants make sure not to have too many things going on and then add a knee pad will be fine. For Ritthirong, make the waist part go upwards instead of downwards to follow the anatomy. Mali is fine but the 3rd one looks better, add some ruffles to the face cloth.

(2/6/2023)
Mali colour over it, colour by sections. For Ritthirong the hand needs to be fixed as he is holding the sword diagonally. The pelvis needs to be a lot proper, make butt smaller. Twist Han's left arm a little bit, twist from the elbow.

REFLECTION
I was so happy to see my characters and weapons slowly come to life. I do find myself struggling a lot with male anatomy, though I am not surprised since it's just my 2nd time drawing a male full body. Understanding the character's personality is very important and it needs to be linked with their storylines like their past and present can affect how they are now. It played a big role in coming up with the character's expressions. MMM weapons.... weapons are so fun to draw.
